In these trying times we need to look after our heads more than ever. This double-wrapped headband can be worn in a variety of ways and is perfect for showcasing that one skein of luxury yarn that you don’t know how to use. Pick something soft and warm that won’t irritate your skin. This pattern is written for a 22” head circumference with 4ply yarn, but is very easy to adapt.

Instructions given for 24” circumference and 2.5” width, but this pattern is highly adaptable. You will need to know the head circumference of the recipient, but an approximate idea will work; the headband is designed to have some negative ease.

Gauge: 32 stitches and 36 rows = 4” in stockinette in the round, with 3.5mm needles after blocking. If your gauge is a little off it’s not too important, it might affect the width a little but you can add more rounds to increase the length.

Needles: 3.5mm (or size required to achieve gauge) circular needles or double pointed needles, choose ones you are comfortable using to knit a small circumference in the round.

Yarn: I used Rainbow Fusions Superwash Merino Zebra 4ply Sock in the colour ‘Tainted Rose’ and approximately 240m which equalled about 60g (rounded up). Since my head is larger than average, I estimate a lot of people will be able to make this headband with a 50g skein of sock yarn. This is your chance to use your beautiful odds and ends of sock yarn.
