The Herring Tee
Short Sleeve Straight Tee fitted with positive ease for comfort, not oversized.
There are two variants included in this pattern; one is for a scallop hem and one for a 1x1 rib hem. The scallop hem is essentially a no-hem version - the pattern naturally scallops. You can iron/steam press this for a sharper look or leave it to do its own thing (like in the photo of the blue tee).
The tee is worked from the bottom up in the round in a vertical Herringbone Pattern. It is fast and fun - yet, a challenge to stay focused in order to keep all the ducks in a row.
The pattern is a simple lace pattern which is constructed using simple increases and decreases in a repetitive manner. It is easy to memorize the stitches and the pattern. Every second round is a knit-only round, due to the pattern being worked in the round.
Round by round written instructions are given along with links to tutorials by expert knitters - these links are meant to support the advanced knitter to re-visit the methods as well as for the intermediate knitter to learn the methods. In addition, there are links to schematic/graphic tutorials. I also provide some of my own drawn schematics to support my specific written instructions.
Unfortunately, I have only made this tee for size Small-Medium; but I intend to add at least one larger option. Until more size options become available you might be able to work the tee in a heavier yarn for a larger tee.
The BC Garn Lino is my prefered 100% Flax yarn to knit with. It is a gorgeous yarn with lovely deep/saturated colors. It has a rustic quality to it because of the way it has been manufactured. Not all of the coarser fibers have been removed and there are “slubs” here and there - it has an almost thick and thin quality to it. The resulting knitted garment becomes lovely.
For this tee in the mentioned size you will need 4 skeins of yarn - very little yarn is left over, which is nice, but if you make a few more rounds (on the torso or sleeve) you may end up running out of yarn. Thus consider purchasing 5 skeins to be safe - perhaps your yarn shop will let you exchange the 5th skein if it isn’t needed. Many local yarn shops will have the experience necessary to assist you.
