The Hidden Magic Keychain
This is an Easy level pattern, written in US terminology. Pictures and graphics are also included to help you visually understand the creation process. The basics and trickier parts of this pattern will also be covered extensively in a series of videos on the Woven Tales Designs YouTube channel—the links to all these videos, where to find them, and how to use the timestamps will be listed on pages 5 & 6 .
You will also be using these Easy level skills when working up this pattern: crocheting continuously in the round, magic ring, and light sewing.
Finished Measurements
When completed using a typical Medium Weight yarn and recommended hook size, the keychain should measure: 2.5” wide x 2” tall x 1.5” thick (approx..)
GENERAL PATTERN NOTES:
• Back Bumps: You will be instructed throughout many parts of the pattern to work into the back bumps of the foundation chain. The back bump of the chain is the “spine” part that you see on the opposite side of the “V” of the chain. Utilizing the back bumps will give you bow a very clean and finished look and eliminate the holes that you’d normally see when working stitches into the foundation chain.
• Sewing Tip for Chapter 2: It can be quite cumbersome to handle sewing such dainty pieces onto the main sphere in the assembly portion of this pattern. I recommend using sewing pins to hold the pieces in place while you attach the pieces. I also recommend sewing one piece at a time!
• If you choose to work with yarns that are not in the same weight category as recommended, make sure that you go at least one hook size down when selecting the hook to work with. For example, if you use a bulky weight yarn (Cat. 5) and the label recommends a 6.5 mm hook, go down to a 5.5 mm hook to achieve a suitable tension.
Timestamps are included throughout the pattern at the beginning or end of certain steps/sections (i.e. 04:10 – 9:23). These timestamps indicate where exactly in the video tutorial one can find a visual guide to the written instructions.
