“Who said anything about panicking?” snapped Arthur. “This is still just the culture shock. You wait till I’ve settled down into the situation and found my bearings. Then I’ll start panicking.”

-The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

First up in my new series of Hitchhiker’s Guide amigurumi characters we have Arthur Dent, the poor, unfortunate survivor of the destruction of Earth. He hasn’t even had a chance to change out of his bathrobe and pajamas and doesn’t even know what…er…some might say “adventures”…he’s about to experience.

Luckily, he has his towel.

Worked mostly in one piece-- with no sewing except for the hair and neck-- this doll is created with a few standard crochet techniques along with some surface crochet to add a few details. You will need to know: sc, dc, slst, FLO and BLO and how to attach in surface crochet stitches and to crochet into the post of a dc. Also there are a fair number of color changes, but I have written detailed instructions on different methods of smooth color transitions.

Gauge is not important for this amigurumi but I do suggest that you keep your hook a smaller size to keep your tension tighter. This prevents the stuffing from showing through and gives you a sturdier doll. I suggest a US C hook, but if this is too small try moving up just one or two hook sizes. Anything more is not recommended.
