The Horizontal Braid Beanie
Beanie is worked with a double brim. After joining the brim, the braid gets worked horizontally across the beanie, picking up stitches as you go which brings you to the next step of the process which is continuing the height of the beanie in a different pattern. Pattern also has an option to pick up stitches AFTER you have completed the braid. Pattern then has an option for a closed top or a messy bun top. I used K+C Superwashed Wool Luxe with has 215yds/197m per donut, I only used 1 donut per beanie (not the whole donut was used).
Fit: 21”-24” circumference head
Required Needles + Hook:
US 6-4mm 16” circular needles
US 8-5mm 16” circular needles
US 8-5mm DPN needles
F/5 - 3.75mm hook (this is optional but highly recommend)
You will also need a pair of scissors, a tapestry needle, cable needle, stitch marker, scrap yarn(for double brim), pom pom (optional), and a hair tie (for messy bun).
This beanie is definitely fun and unique but does require some patience. Easy once you get the hang of it, but can be frustrating to start. Still give a go! The hard part is just starting the braid.
Other options for yarn would be any weight 3, or light weight, or even a weight 4, or medium weight.
