The Irish Fisherman Mittens
This is the most simple mitten construction you can find. It is a great introduction to knitting colorwork in the round, and as well will give you a beautiful accessory for the wintertime.
The sizes are fully customizable to fit any type of hand.
The colorwork is inspired by the great tradition of Irish knitting: cables and knots are virtually present in any decorative items or garments in Irish folklore.

On the construction
This pattern is worked in the round, using DPNs or Magic Loop.

Sizes
The sizes are customisable. Gauge and needle size can be adapted to the hand size: change needle size or yarn weight to obtain smaller or larger mittens. In my case, for an average hand male hand size 12 cm (4.7 inch) at the wider point and 20 cm (7.8 inch) in height.

Yarn
For this pattern I used West Yorkshire Spinner BFL DK 100% BFL wool, 100g skein = 225 m (246 yd).

Yarn Requirements
2, 50g skeins of DK yarn in 2 contrasting colours

Tension
Gauge and needle size do not matter. Varying the gauge varies the size, so it’s possible to fit any hand measurements. In my case, for an average man size I have 26 Sts = 10 cm (4 inch)

Needles Suggestion
3.5mm, US 4 Double Pointed Needles
3.25mm, US 3 Double Pointed Needles

Notions
Darning needle
