The Janis Shawl
This is a really special pattern for me because I designed it for my aunt Jan when she was diagnosed with a rare cancer. I wanted to make her something she could keep warm under while attending treatment, it’s lovely as a shawl but also a lap blanket, scarf, or even headscarf and I’m pleased to say she’s been in possession of the one I made for a while and loved it!
All proceeds from this pattern will be donated to Rare Cancers Australia, who are running a trial for my aunt’s cancer that she’s taking part in! Fingers crossed it has a great result. I’ll be so happy to be donating some money from my sales to such a worthy charity.

This pattern is also a bit special because I specifically chose this stitch to look great in variegated hand dyed yarn! It’s just absolutely beautiful and really shows off the colours - though it also looks great in a solid colour or stripes or as a scrappy project! It’s also great because you can use any weight yarn for it, and has a video tutorial so it should be achievable and accessible for everyone!
This pattern is very customisable, you can use any type of yarn, and make it any size you like. I have instructions for a border but you can also do any sort of border you like!
As a rough guide, the sample I made was with 4ply/fingering weight merino, I used a 5mm hook, used approx 900m and it ended up a size where when wearing it across my shoulders the point hung to my waist.
