This is a made-to-measure button up pattern! What does made-to-measure mean? It means that any yarn weight and hook size can be used to create any size garment that is custom to your measurements for the perfect fit! This is an adult sized garment pattern however it is possible to make child sizes if you use a lightweight yarn so the spreadsheet has a small gauge to calculate with (see @mummy_makes_it ‘s version for her daughter). Please note though, for all sizes the heavier the yarn weight that you use, the larger the stitch repeat will become and the less precise the sizing will be which is what happens with all patterns that use a larger stitch repeat and thicker yarn. I recommend using no heavier than worsted weight yarn, which is the yarn weight I used for my long sleeve purple version, or bulky weight yarn, which is the yarn I used for my super long teal version. I don’t want that to discourage you from using a heavier yarn weight though, it’s just something you should be mindful of! After inputting your measurements double check the projected finished garment measurements section at the bottom of the spreadsheet to see if the measurements will result in the type of fit that you want.

When following this pattern it is assumed you…

  • know the crochet stitches used (ch, sc, dc, tr)
  • know how to read crochet instructions (although the instructions are as clear and concise as possible, the lace repeat is a large repeat which can be confusing for those less experience with reading crochet instructions. Pictures and diagrams are included to clarify every step of the pattern and there is a full video tutorial for the neckline shaping panel’s setup included as well that can be followed if the moving visual and explanation is easier to follow for that section only)
  • know how to crochet in the opposite side of a crochet chain
  • know how to sew a seam
  • know how to look at the fabric you have crocheted and identify specific stitches (example: identify the dc stitches made in a row that was crocheted 2 rows ago)
  • know how to continue in pattern following the stitch repeat instructions when directed to
  • know how to crochet along the side edge of a previously completed panel (example: this is used to create the button bands and/or collar)
  • have made at least one garment prior to this! (Having made a garment before this is not required because of all the pictures and diagrams included, but having previous experience is so helpful because you can better visualize how the project comes together to be a wearable piece.)
  • are able to follow instructions such as “work rows 1-6 of the full stitch pattern repeat insert number here amount of times” or “repeat from * to * until insert number here amount of stitches remain”

There are two different buttonable variations of neckline that can be made with this pattern and a third “bonus” variation that creates an open front cardigan that is unable to be buttoned! Style 1 has a collar that lays over the shoulders of the garment along with 2 small lapel details on the neckline created by folding a section of the front panels down. Style 2 is a classic slightly “V” shaped neckline that you see on many button front cardigans. Both necklines when finished have a very similar shape, the neckline of style 1 just has a few more angles than that of it’s counterpart. The bonus style that was not initially apart of this pattern at the time I named it, style 3, is an open front cardigan that looks great super long (like my version shown here), cropped or any length in between! The length and how you finish off the sleeve is also very customizable!

  • Style 1 and Style 3 are the easiest of the styles to complete if you are new to crocheting your own garments because they don’t involve decreasing while crocheting lace :-)

A huge shoutout to everyone on the testing team!! Because of the photo limit I can only include just photo each, be sure to check their instagram accounts to see more of the amazing things they have made!!!
