The Joey Sweater
The Joey sweater was inspired by street style looks from Zara and Free People. Worked in reverse stockinette this sweater will be your next simple and minimalistic winter wardrobe staple. Knit with aran weight yarn on 8mm needles, the sweater is a relatively quick knit. We recommend Drops Nepal to achieve a nice drape, not to mention the stitch definition and softness of the fabric formed from working with a wool/alpaca blend.
MATERIALS
- 770-840m of aran weight yarn (Suggested yarn: Drops Nepal)
- 8mm knitting needles, straight or circular Optional: 8mm double pointed needles for the cowl if circulars were not used
- Tapestry needle
MEASUREMENTS
One size fits most. Body pieces (21 1⁄2 wide, 23” length), sleeves (4 1⁄2” wide at the cuff, 19” length).
TECHNIQUES
Reverse stockinette: The same as the stockinette stitch (purls on one side, and knits on the other), except the purl stitches are the right side and the knit stitches on the wrong side. If you decide to knit this sweater in the round, reverse stockinette is created by purling every stitch.
Make one stitch purl-wise: Place your needles as if to purl the next stitch, but don’t drop the loop off your left needle. Instead, work a purl stitch in the back of the same loop and transfer the worked stitch to the right needle as you would do normally with a regular purl stitch. One stitch has been increased.
