I’ve named this cowl after the Juniper Trees at the Grand Canyon, because of the cowl’s many cables that interweave and twist around the wearer, just like the Juniper trees twist with the prevailing winds, growing out of dry rocks. The trees are known in folklore for their protective and healing powers. In this same way, this tall, chunky cowl will protect you from the cold winds :)

This scarf is knit in a super-bulky yarn with large, twisted cables. It is knit flat, then seamed together to make a loop using Kitchener stitch for an invisible seam.

Although it is knit flat, I recommend using 24 in. circular needles for comfortable length.

Finished Dimensions:

Measurements: 32 in (81 mm) circumference, 10 in (25.5 mm) height (top to bottom)

A Note About Kitchener Stitch:

I recommend becoming familiar with the kitchener stitch before starting this pattern. If it’s too tricky, you may cast on and off and seam the ends together in your preferred method, however, other methods will leave a visible seam (unlike the kitchener stitch).
