The seed for this design was the description of a Chanel-designed jacket knitted by Lesley Frewen, the protagonist of The Flowering Thorn by Margery Sharp. To me, the jacket symbolizes Lesley’s growing resourcefulness and self-reliance.

The slight variegation of the deep navy yarn gives extra richness and depth to the herringbone stitch pattern. The contrast of the solid cream adds crispness and femininity. The sleeves are three-quarter to bracelet length, depending on the length of the wearer’s arms.

You’ll need 29” circular needles in sizes 6 and 7, a crochet hook in size F, a tapestry needle and a sewing needle.

Suggested yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted, 100% merino wool, 225 yards (205.7 m)/114 gram (4.0 oz) skein, 4 skeins of Cookie’s Deep Dark Secret (MC) and 1 skein of Natural (CC)

In addition to the yarn, you will need three 1/2 inch shank buttons, sewing thread to match the main color, a sewing needle and a tapestry needle.
