The Lily Price Shawl
This shawl is worked with a classic top down construction technique. It starts from a small garter stitch strip of knitting. The entire shawl is charted. The shawl can be made smaller by working charts 2, 3, 4 and 5 fewer times.
The green numbers on the wrong side rows of the initial charts are there to assist in checking stitch counts on the first repeats until the pattern is visibly established. Subsequent charts increase in multiples of 10 stitches. Increases are worked on either side of a central stitch and at each edge inside a 3 stitch garter border.
Stitches are numbered by section. Sections include the border, an increase section, a pattern repeat section, a second increase section, the centre stitch, a third increase section, a pattern repeat section, a fourth increase section, and the final border.
The lace stitch pattern on Charts 2 and 3 includes two features to take note of. The first is a twisted stitch at the base of the motif, the second is a double yarn over. On the wrong side, the double yarn over is worked as a p1, k1 into the larger loop to maintain the stitch count. All other wrong side rows are purl stitches only.
