Inspired by the log cabin quilt pattern, Holli created a modular knit blanket that uses a traditional structure with a contemporary colour choice. We love the effect of the graphic greys, charcoal and black, with that pop of red to represent the hearth. The blanket is made all the cozier with a slight fulling in the finishing.

The pattern is written for three sizes: Stroller (29.5” x 34”), Lap (39” x 45”), Throw (48.5” x 56”) and is cleverly knit using a modular technique.

Substitution Notes
Choose a heavy worsted weight wool. Original is 100% wool that works up at 4.5 to 5 sts per inch (2.5 cm) on 4 to 5 mm (US 6-8) needles. Choose a wool that will felt. If you prefer not to felt it, wools, wool blends, and acrylics will substitute well.

Knit Picks Wool of the Andes (affiliate) would be the perfect substitution for this now discontinued yarn.

Two 5 mm (US 8) Circular Needles, 32” (80 cm) long;
Stitch Markers;
Scrap Yarn.

Gauge
17 sts and 34 rows = 4” (10 cm) over garter stitch, before fulling.

Techniques
Modular knitting, worked flat, knitting in the round, Magic Loop, decreases, knitted cast on, slipped stitch selvedge, spit splice joins, three needle bind off, picking up stitches, gentle felting/fulling.
