The Lofoten Trellis Hat
Inspired by the houses of the traditional Lofoten district of Norway, when knit in contrasting colours, this colourwork hat, though simple, is an incredibly striking addition to your winter wardrobe.
Worked in an aran weight yarn, it knits up quickly and will definitely keep heads warm in the colder months.
Construction
Knit bottom up, in the round with a ribbed brim then a stranded colourwork tube which is closed at the top using a traditional decrease method.
Sizes
Available in 5 sizes: Baby, Toddler, Child/Adult S, Adult M and Adult L.

Sample knit in Women’s Institute Plum Soft and Smooth Aran by Hobby Craft
Yardage
Total yardage approximate 100 (112, 128, 156, 172) meters/ 110 (122, 140, 170, 188) yards.
MC and CC approximate 50 (56, 64, 78, 86) metres / 55 (61, 70, 85, 94) yards in each colour.
For folded brim MC approximate 60 (68, 77, 95, 103) metres / 66 (74, 84, 104, 113 yards and CC approximate 50 (56, 64, 78, 86) metres / 55 (61, 70, 85, 94) yards.
Needles
4.0mm and 5.0mm / size 6 and size 8 (40cm for baby and toddler, 60cm for child an adult sizes) circular needles, or needles to obtain gauge.
(Sample crown knit using magic loop technique. Use double pointed needles if preferred).
Gauge
18 sts x 22 rounds = 10x10cm / 4x4 inches in charted stockinette stitch in the round, blocked.
Measurements
Approximate circumference 41 (43, 48, 53, 58) cm/ 16 (17, 19, 21, 23) inches.

Tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker, scissors, pompom (optional).
