The Maria Hat
The Maria Knit Hat is a striking double brim beanie with color work that starts in the brim and keeps going all the way to the crown. Four or five different colors are used in this pattern. This is a GREAT stash buster project! Specific yardage amounts for each of the colors is included so you can determine if the partial skeins of yarn you have on hand are truly enough to complete the pattern. If you weight your yarn you’ll need the following amounts:
Color A: 45 Grams, Color B, C, D: 7 Grams of each and Color E: 30 Grams
There are TWO options for the crown of the hat – WITH Double Pointed Needles or WITHOUT depending on your preference or skill level.
For your convenience I’ve made a pattern worksheet on page 7 for marking off the rows as you go. This is helpful for when you are comfortable with all the techniques and only want to print exactly what to do in each row. I even include boxes to check off the rounds as you go when the pattern calls for knitting multiple rows in the same color.
As with all my colorwork patterns there is a coloring sheet on the last page of the pattern so you can play around with color combos without having to knit an entire hat to see how the colors will look together.
Links to YouTube videos for connecting a double brim are included as well.
Carrying yarn in the fair isle style of knitting requires a balanced tension to the yarn so the color changing stitches don’t get lost in your work. This would be considered an advanced beginner pattern.
I include LOTS of photos so if you ARE a beginner you can pick up the fair isle style of knitting if you are motivated to learn.
