The Mariner's Revenge Mitts
The Mariner’s Revenge Mitts are squishy, stretchy fingerless gloves with engaging cables and bold knit & purl motifs that coordinate with The Mariner’s Revenge Hat. Ribbing along the wrist and hand ensure a snug fit and the thumb gusset emerges smoothly from the pattern. Two sizes are available by working with either DK weight yarn or a larger Worsted weight yarn version.
This pattern has been professionally tech-edited and test-knit. It includes both fully written-out and charted versions to work from. The ribbing creates a very stretchy fabric and the original samples were tried on by a wide variety of hand sizes to ensure the fit was versatile and comfortable. The Worsted version is longer in the hand to accommodate longer fingers and thumb. In general terms, DK fits most female hands and Worsted fits most male hands.
An unusual stretchy cast on for a clean, braided edge was used for the samples, and the YouTube tutorial link is shared in pattern and below if you want to give it a try. Otherwise, your preferred stretchy cast on including long tail will work just great! Small, repetitive cables are perfect for practicing cabling without a needle as well.
The domestically produced Brooklyn Tweed yarn celebrates the sheep and farmers living in my neighboring state Wyoming. Both weights of yarn used in the pattern are delightful to work with and are designed to withstand years of use. I do recommend soaking the Shelter yarn overnight in wool wash to allow time for the fibers to hydrate and plump up to their full potential. You might also encounter vegetable matter as the yarn is not harshly treated to dissolve it. I hope the pause you take to remove these little bits brings you visions of happy sheep living under the brilliant Wyoming sky like it does for me!
