This pattern is perfect for a beginner as it uses only basic stitches with the only real challenge being the small details up the sides of the hat. A few years ago, I started a knitting group alongside a few friends after I finished school at Washington State University. Our mission was to knit hats and donate them to a local agency called Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse that provides crisis and advocacy services for the community alongside a wide range of other services. Our group was called Hats Without Homes, and we donated over a hundred hats in the two years we knit together.
