The Meraki Bootie
Finally an adorable knitted pattern for both super bulky and light super bulky yarns!I
In this pattern you will find instructions for three sizes of baby bootie: 0–3 months, 3–6 months and 6–12 months, in two yarn weights (super bulky and light super bulky) and with options for three different basic cuffs. There is also a bonus mitten pattern at the end so you can make all those matching sets!
The pattern has been written in collaboration with Jayne Tucker of Two Little Rainbows for use with her gorgeous faux suede soles. These come in sizes 0–3 months and 3–6 months and are linked in the pattern. You can of course choose to knit a sole for these sizes instead and a knitted sole is the only option for 6–12 months for safety reasons. We do not recommend that babies walk in these booties.
Skill Level ~
The pattern is suitable for advanced beginners onwards! You’ll find plenty of picture and video tutorials included.
Method ~
For use with the soles from Two Little Rainbows we will be using a crochet hook to pull the yarn through the soles before continuing with the main body, which will be knitted seamlessly in rounds. When making the booties without using the soles, we will be knitting in rows for the sole section. You can use your preferred method for knitting in the round. I personally favour DPNs but you can use two sets of circulars, magic loop or ‘flexi’s” if you would rather.
The pattern is suitable for use with any super chunky/bulky or chunky/bulky weight yarns.
Gauge ~
- Super Chunky ~ 12 sts x 16 rnds = 10 cm x 10 cm/4 x 4”, stockinette knitted in the round on 8 mm/ US 11
- Light Super Chunky ~ 13.5 sts x 20 rnds = 10 cm x 10 cm/4 x 4”, stockinette knitted in the round on 6.5 mm/ US 10.5
Materials ~
- Soles from Two Little Rainbows. These are optional but super cute!
- Yarn: super chunky or light super chunky.
- Knitting needles, either DPNs or circulars depending on your personal preference: Super chunky – 6.5 mm/US 10.5 and 8 mm/US 11. Light super chunky – 4.5 mm/US 7 and 6.5 mm/US 10.5. Or sizes needed to meet gauge.
- 4 mm/US G–6 crochet hook, darning needle, and scissors.
This is the perfect pattern for using up those yarn scraps as it can be knitted in contrasting colours for sole, body and cuff!
