The Mini Mesh Vest Knitting Pattern
Based on feedback from the pattern testers, this pattern is rated at easy level difficulty (2 out of 5 difficulty). I go into detail about how garment ease works and I have included many diagrams and other helpful resources, so someone who is newer to knitting could make this vest (not brand new! This is not a beginner project. Basic knitting and pattern reading knowledge is required. A small amount of crochet is used to assemble the vest, but I created a full video tutorial walking you through the entire assembly process so prior crochet knowledge is not required).

You will receive a full color PDF as well as a printer friendly PDF. This is not a listing for a physical item!!

Materials:

  • Needles: 8mm (US 11) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. The vest panels are knit flat so it is possible to use straight needles, but you will need circular needles or a set of double pointed needles (DPNs) to knit the collar.
  • Yarn: Approximately 220-420 yards / 201-381 meters (#4 weight) Mohair or Brushed Alpaca yarn. Specific amounts for each size are listed in the pattern. If you are using yarn that has a blend of different fibers I recommend using one that is 30% or more mohair/brushed alpaca fiber. Please note, there is a lot of yardage variation possible with this pattern because it is designed around a thinner yarn being used with large needles. Note: This yardage recommendation is an estimate for a full length vest made with a single strand of yarn. If you are using two strands of yarn to match gauge you will need approximately double the amount listed here and if you are using 3 strands you will need approximately triple the amount listed here. You should not need to hold more than 3 strands together for this pattern as my test swatch with a lace weight yarn (#0) held triple was the perfect thickness for this pattern. I recommend only holding multiple strands of yarn together if you are using a mohair or a brushed yarn because the strands Other supplies:
  • Crochet hook for assembly that matches your needle size
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in loose ends
  • Approximately 2-3 removable stitch markers
  • Scissors to cut your yarn
  • (Optional) Flexible measuring tape to accurately find your size
  • (Optional) Row counter, this is the best way to ensure that you panels are the same length.

Gauge: 9 stitches by 15 rows in mesh pattern = 4 in by 4 in (10 cm by 10 cm) square.

The pattern is designed to fit women with a 30-60 in / 76-152 cm bust. It can fit up to a 24-66 in / 61-162 cm bust if you are okay with not having positive ease. There are a bunch of customizations that can be made to the overall fit of the vest, its even possible to substitute a dk weight yarn and 5mm needles to create a warmer winter vest (This substitution does have size limitations).

A huge thank you to all of the pattern testers! Without them releasing this pattern would not have been possible! You can find them on Instagram at:
