I have grown a lot as a designer and this pattern no longer reflects my pattern writing abilities. In the future I may decide to update it, but for now I have chosen to deactivate the pattern. For those who have previously purchased the pattern you can still reach out to me for pattern support if you ever need it. I can be reached via email at toquesandthings@gmail.com, Ravelry private messages, or Instagram. Thank you for your support!

The Monarch Beanie is so-named for the fair-isle sections that look like lots of little butterflies decorating your hat.

As this hat is knit in the round, use the type of needles you prefer for this type of project (dpns, 16” circulars with dpns for the crown, or 32” or larger circular needles for magic loop knitting).

The gauge listed uses the larger needles.

Size Details:

Small: 17.5” - 19.5” (requires 1 braid of suggested yarn)
Medium: 19.5” - 21.5” (requires 2* braids of suggested yarn)
Large: 21.5” - 23.5” (requires 2 braids of suggested yarn)

The young boy pictured is seven years old and he is wearing size “Small”. I would recommend size “Medium” for the average female’s head, and size “Large” for the average male’s head.

Size “Medium” uses 1 braid and a bit of the 2nd, but can be made with only 1 (see pattern for more details).
