This pattern was originally published as Twisted’s contribution to the 2019 Rose City Yarn Crawl, March 7-10, 2019 in Portland, Oregon.

With its stunning reservoirs, wooded paths, and lofty views, Mt. Tabor has long been a source of peace, inspiration, mystery and raw beauty to many Portlanders. This design is inspired by watery reflections of the moon, stars and other lights that pass over in the night. Its expanding rings are like ripples in otherwise still water. Instructions are for a large, 4-color shawl, with suggestions for adapting a smaller, 2-color variation.

Yarn
Fingering weight yarn in four colors, approx. A: 380-410 yards, B: 300 yards, C & D: 250 yards each. Shown in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Featherlight; in colorways A: Shed a Little Light, B: Red Dawn, C: Everyday Gray, and D: Deep Unrelenting Gray

for a smaller 2-color variation, roughly 380 yards of each color. Suggested yarn: Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight (not pictured).

Finished Measurements
This shawl can be made with a range of gauges, thus finished sizes will vary. Instructions are for a large, 4-color shawl. To make a smaller, 2-color variation, suggestions are made throughout the pattern.

The shawl is shown in 4 colors of light fingering weight yarn and measures approx: wingspan 58”/147 cm, back depth 27”/68.5 cm.

Not pictured: a 2-color variation measures approx: wingspan 48”/122 cm, back depth 20”/50 cm depending on gauge.

Gauge
20 - 24 sts = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette Stitch, blocked.
Gauge is not critical to this pattern but will affect finished size and yarn usage. Remember that superwash yarns may grow dramatically when blocked.

Needles
32” or longer circular needle in size US 4/3.5 mm (for light fingering weight yarn) or US 5/3.75 mm (for heavy fingering weight yarn) or size that gets you a gauge you like. You may want to start on a shorter needle then move to a longer one as the work grows.
