This blanket is a field of 3 stockinette panels interspersed with two lace panels with overall garter borders and a lacy edging worked top and bottom in a contrasting color. The garter border is worked simultaneously to the body using the colorwork technique of intarsia, then an additional knitted on lacy edging is worked to “eat up” the live stitches on either end.

This is a very large blanket, suitable for toddler use through preschool and beyond. If yarn requirements are a concern, (or you prefer a smaller blanket) cast on fewer stitches, robbing them from the stockinette panels - at recommended gauge every 9 stitches takes away 2 inches in width, and every 10 row chart repeat is worth about 1.7” in length before blocking.

*** I had very, very little yarn left over, so while gauge is not critical to the finished blanket, it certainly is vital for estimating yarn requirements. Please save yourself some heartache and check your gauge!
