The Naturalist
“Keep close to nature’s heart…and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.” --John Muir
John Muir was a naturalist and an environmental philosopher, and is known as the father of the National Parks system in America. As an author, he published six volumes of writings that describe his explorations of nature. Through his inspirational writings he motivated presidents and congresses to take action and preserve large natural areas.
My Naturalist scarf is crocheted in a beautiful, splatter-dyed 100 percent pima cotton, perfect for Spring and Summer. And, you can crochet this in a beautiful natural sport weight wool for a cozy, warm scarf for the Winter.
The scarf is crocheted from tip to tip and the rows of the scarf are crocheted on the diagonal, increasing and decreasing on opposite row ends to form the boomerang shape.
The Naturalist is an easy to crochet project with an easy-to-memorize stitch and row pattern. For my scarf I used two skeins of the new sport weight Cascade Ultra Pima Fine Peruvian Tones yarn in the colorway “Turtle”.
Be sure to check out all of the beautiful colors of this yarn! Then, get started, go outside and crochet and enjoy all things natural.
