The Neverland Collars
The Neverland Collars pattern is designed in a way that introduces you to knitting lace if you are not already familiar with this knitting technique. The pattern contains instructions for 3 different lace styles and if you make the styles in the recommended order you will progressively learn all of the basic lace stitches (yo, ssk, k2tog, m1r and m1l). It is recommended that you have some knitting experience and you know how to read a knitting pattern.
This pattern has one size, but this one size won’t fit everyone perfectly. It’s very easy to slightly adjust your gauge to alter the size of this accessory, it just requires some simple math. Instructions are included in the pattern to help you decide if the size of the collar is to your liking or if you will need to adjust it.
MATERIALS:
- 3.25 mm circular knitting needles or the size needed to obtain gauge (depending on if you are adjusting the size of your collar you may use anywhere from 2.75 mm to 4mm needles)
- 2 double pointed needles that match the size of your circular needles (this is 100% optional, I just personally prefer using DPNs to knit the i-cords faster)
- If you are not modifying the size you will need approximately 15g of lace weight (#0) mohair (or other fluffy lace weight yarn) for each collar that you make. My samples were made with hobbii alpaca blaze and hobbii diablo mohair. If you want the fabric to be less see through you can hold 2 strands of lace weight mohair together. I did this with my sample for style 1 and I think it turned out great! You will need approximately 32 grams of yarn if you hold 2 strands of yarn together. Other fiber types like wool, cotton or acrylic can be also be used if you want the fabric to be less see-through, but it is recommended that you use a #2 or #3 weight yarn if you plan on using one of these fiber types so the lace has the stability it needs.
- 4-5 removeable stitch markers, wire stitch markers are recommended since you are using lightweight yarn.
- tapestry needle
- scissors
- scrap yarn (optional)
- ruler / flexible measuring tape (optional)
