The Ninth Wave
News (March 2015): This pattern is not representative of my current design work and pattern writing style. It may or may not be updated at some point. (If you have bought it, you will automatically receive any update into your library.)
A simple yet sophisticated fitted sweater with a stockinette body knitted bottom up in the round and a cosy cowl neck. The wide wrist-length sleeves, which are breezy as well as cuddly, are attached seamlessly working downwards from the armholes, and the recurring wave pattern adds textural interest and lends itself well to drawing attention to a beautiful yarn.
Apart from two small shoulder seams, this sweater is completely seamless.
Yardage for body yarn: approx. 600 / 600 / 650 / 700 / 750 / 800 / 850 yds
Yardage for sleeve yarn: approx. 400 / 400 / 400 / 500 / 500 / 600 / 600 yds
Body gauge: 20 sts / 29 rows = 4’’ in stockinette stitch
Sleeve gauge: 21 sts / 28 rows = 4’’ in stockinette stitch
“Lana Grossa Bingo”, the yarn used for the body, is easily available in Germany but might be rare elsewhere. Suggested substitute yarns:
Cascade 220, Knitpicks Wool of the Andes, Briggs & Little Heritage, New Lanark Aran.
Suggested alternatives for the sleeves: Manos del Uruguay
Maxima, KnitPicks Andean Silk, Noro Silk Garden, or any of the yarns suggested for the body.
The sweater is supposed to be worn with a bit of positive ease. The modelled sweater is a size S worn by a person with a ~32’’ / 81 cm bust.
The pattern is provided as an 8 page pdf with detailed colour photos (3.4 MB). Alternatively, it can be downloaded as a 6 page text only black and white pdf without any photos (136 KB). A schematic with measurements is included in both versions. The wave pattern for the sleeves is given as a small chart with additional explanations.
