The Parting Glass
“The Parting Glass” is a Scottish and Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends. It was allegedly the most popular parting song sung in Scotland before Robert Burns wrote “Auld Lang Syne” It is used in America to close Pubs, and is often used to say goodbye. When it was time to design this sock my brother Ciaran’s son was killed. This sock is Goodbye, to the sock club, to my nephew and to a wonderful collaboration with karinmt. I have wept through this entire sock. At the senseless death of a young man. So many of us have said goodbye to loved ones this year, and yet as life goes on so do we. So on this last day of the year which would have been my parents 70 the anniversary I say to you to quote the song “So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all.”
