The Perfect No Show Socks
If you are like me you probably have a favorite pair of Chuck Taylor’s (or boat shoes or loafers) that you just cannot find the perfect socks for. I prefer a no-show sock with my low-cut shoes and good stay put no-show socks are hard to come by. Every pair of no-show socks I have owned has had one of two problems: either they roll down and bunch up under my foot as I walk or they stay put but by mid-day my shoes squeak as I walk. How embarrassing is that!? I wear hand knit socks all winter long and this past spring I made a few pairs of short ankle socks as well for some warm weather wears. One day, I wore a pair of short hand knit socks with my Chuck Taylors and noticed my shoes didn’t squeak! I had found the answer to my squeaky shoe dilemma; wool socks! I still had one problem, the short socks weren’t no-show. I instantly got to work designing the perfect hand knit socks that were no-show and no-slip.
The construction of these socks are like no other sock pattern I have ever seen. An i-cord is the foundation that the sock is built on. The i-cord allows for a sturdy ankle that is both no-show and no-slip. These socks don’t require much yarn (32-45g in the samples I have knit) which makes this pattern the perfect pattern for your 50g skein of yarn from your favorite self-striping dyer! If you are like me and have endless partial skeins laying around leftover from pairs of hand knit socks past this pattern is perfect for stash busting those as well! At the end of the pattern there are some suggestions for coordinating toes and i-cord cuffs. I hope you find their unique design as fun to knit as I do! This pattern is written for two sizes; Adult small (Adult Large). Anytime in the instructions there is only one number it applies for both sizes. 50g fingering weight yarn is more than enough for most adult foot sizes.
