The Pinky Promise Shawl
The Pinky Promise shawl is a triangular shawl worked bottom up, from the peak to the widest part, in a simple but beautiful lace stitch pattern. The lace stitch is made up by 3 rows repeat and requires only chain, single and double crochet stitches. With every repeat, the shawl grows gradually, and you may stop whenever you reach the desirable size. In the end, a delicate picot edging is worked, though you can skip this step if you prefer your shawl without edging.
I named it the Pinky Promise, because it’s pink and because I once promised my followers to design a free shawl pattern :).
Yarn choice. You may work with any yarn you want depending on the desirable style and look, as well as on the climate in your area.
Linen or cotton blends provide a very nice, boho or cottage core look and a great stitch definition.
Mohair or alpaca blends are feathery light yet warm and have a very beautiful, romantic fluffiness. Depending on the color choice, this can even be a darker, gothic style romance.
Tweed yarn provides a nice old school or rustic look.
Hook. Choose the hook that works for your yarn and crocheting density and make a small sample. The fabric should be soft, airy, and flowy, yet not too wobbly, and you should feel comfortable working with your chosen hook size. Adjust as necessary.
Please, note that I am not providing measurements for this pattern, since you can use any materials you want and adjust the shawl size any time. For my mini shawl in the photo, I used only 1 skein of fingering-weight alpaca-blend yarn and a 3mm crochet hook.
