Venus is part of The Planets Collection, a collection of shawl patterns inspired by the orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst. This shawl features a lace pattern created using a system of embedding words into knitting patterns developed by Naomi Parkhurst. In this case, the word Venus was used to create the lace pattern. The sample was knit with a large gradient skein of North Country Sock from Wandering Wool, but this pattern could also be worked in sport or light DK.

This patterns works well with solids, tonals, semi-solids, gradients, and lightly speckled yarns. The lace pattern may be lost in highly variegated or speckled yarns.

The pattern includes both written and charted directions.

Materials
Yarn - North Country Sock, 150g from Wandering Wool, 695 yds (636 m), sample used Midnight on the Water.

Needles - US size 4 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge below. 32”/80 cm circular recommended. If you are using a yarn different from the sample, use a needle that gives you a fabric you like.
Gauge - 20 sts by 32 rows equals 4”/10 cm in lace pattern, blocked. Gauge is not overly important as long as you are happy with the fabric.
Finished size -58”/147 cm along the top and 36”/91 cm deep
Miscellaneous- stitch marker, darning needle for weaving in ends
