The Poet Shawl
Inspire your inner poet or artist with this romantic triangular shawl that’s worked from the top down, and ended with a crochet bind-off.
This lightweight shawl is generously sized and has an easy to remember pattern. The delightful border was inspired by a vintage edging pattern. It can be worked in two colors as shown, all in one color, or work the main part of the shawl in one color and change to a second color for the remainder - approximate yarn requirements are provided for the two alternatives.
Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but the yarn weight and needle size used will affect the finished measurements.
Finished size after blocking: 65” (165 cm) across top edge, and 27” (68.5 cm) long at center.
Yarn used:
MC: Happy Hands Hand Dyed Yarns SW Merino/Tencel (450 yds/411 m per 4 oz/113.5 g hank); color Cucumber Slice. Note: This yarn has been discontinued, when substituting another yarn, make sure to choose one with similar characteristics and gauge.
CC: Knit One, Crochet Too Kettle Tweed (60% merino wool, 20% baby llama, 10% bamboo, 10% Donegal; 437 yds/400 m per 3.5 oz/100 g hank); color Spruce Moss #4569.
Yarn needed:
MC: 421 yds (385 m)
CC: 62 yds (57 m)
Alternative 1: Work the shawl all in one color; approx 483 yds (442 m) required.
Alternative 2: Work the shawl in two colors, working the main color to the end of Chart B, then changing to the contrast color and complete the shawl with that; approx 316 yds (289 m) of MC, and 167 yds (153 m) of CC are needed.
