update 07/31: ribbing set up row correction (pattern and all translations)
the purl code cardigan is worked seamlessly back and forth from the top down. First some short rows are worked to shape the neck. Raglan increases are then worked to final yoke depth, where sleeve stitches are placed on hold. From this point the body is worked back and forth to the hem. Button bands are worked next. Then sleeve stitches are picked up again to work the sleeves in rounds top down to the cuffs. Purl stitch lines are added every now and then throughout (add purl stitches where you like/when you like/as many as you like) …you may like the idea of using the morse code alphabet (a ‘purl code alphabet’ on is provided in the pattern) for making this a statement sweater ;)

Needles
US 2 1/2 (3 mm) 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for cast on, body ribbing, button bands and sleeve ribbing.
US 3 (3.25 mm) 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for yoke, body and sleeves.
Gauge
26 sts x 38 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in Stockinette stitch on larger needle after blocking.
