This is a simple scarf, based on Aran honeycomb cables but with a looser gauge so the look is something between lace and cables. Cables are worked on different row numbers within the project.
The colour of my project resembles the Queen Conch shell’s inside and It is something royal about it, so my vision for the scarf was to have a large hood.
The scarf can be actually worn with the hood in front – looking like a large triangle shawl.

The work on this design takes me back to my childhood, when I lived in Romania and spent summer holidays at the Black Sea, hundreds of miles away from my hometown. We didn’t have Queen conch shells, but there were other conch shells we treasured.

For years and years, as a child I believed that holding the shell up to my ear and listening carefully, I could hear the soothing sounds of sea waves. It was years later when I found the boring truth: ambient noise!

However, the spiritual meaning of a queen conch shell varies amongst different cultures but most consider the large spiral shell to be a symbol of infinity, representing the never ending cycle of life and it’s said to bring good luck, fortune and prosperity. So here you have it, hoping this will bring good luck to all of us!

scarf SIZE: One but easy to adjust length/width, notes provided.

MATERIALS
Lana Grossa Setasuri Big 70%alpaca, 20% silk, 10% virgin wool Merino, 109 yd/100m per 0.88 oz/25 g skein; color: Pink 505; sample used exactly 6 cakes

Fringe loops were supplemented with Abbey Road Truly madly mohair blend 50%acrylic, 22% mohair, 20% merino, 8% polyester, 98 yds/90m/1.76 oz/50g – sample used approx 19 yds/18 m – this is optional

Yarn Characteristics:
The sample shown uses a worsted-weight fluff. This yarn is a great alternative to mohair, adding a little halo with minimizing itch.
• I believe this pattern looks best in a solid colour yarn. Alternative yarns – any suitable soft and fluffy yarns that will give you a similar gauge. Please note the hood is quite large and sits at best when the yarn is softer, sort of floppy.

US 10 ½/ UK 3 /6.5mm – knitting needles (straight or circular)
The scarf is knitted in one piece from end to end and the hood is seamed afterwards.
Only written instructions are included.
