This easy, quick to knit hat consists entirely of ribbing, keeping your head warm whether you’re on a city street or mountain ridge. Stretchy rib knit will accommodate most head sizes. Sample was knit with Zealana Rimu DK, a soft and squishy blend of merino and New Zealand Possum. Feel free to substitute any DK weight yarn with a slight halo to achieve a similar effect.

Supplies needed:
Zealana Rimu DK, 50 gram ball
Only one ball is needed to complete a hat in one color. Purchase two balls if you want to add stripes as shown. Two balls will be enough to complete two hats, using the alternate ball for the stripes in each hat. Hat may also be knit longer, providing for a fold up brim. If you wish a longer hat, purchase an extra ball.

16” circular needles in sizes 5 and 6, or size needed for gauge
Set of DPNs for decreasing top of hat, in larger needle size
Gauge with smaller needle should be 25 sts over 4 inches measured over unstretched 1x1 rib. The larger needle is used for top of hat to provide a slightly looser fit at the crown.

Finished dimensions: Top of hat to bottom edge is 9 inches. Hat will stretch to fit up to a 24” head. Feel free to add extra depth for a fold up brim. To make hat smaller or larger, cast on more or less stitches in increments of 6, adjusting stitch count in the decrease section.
