The Ropes
Available as part of the Yorkshire Shores Ebook Part 2, along with the Ravenscar Hat, Robin Hood’s Bay jumper, Saltwick Bay poncho and Sandsend blanket.
The remaining patterns from the book can be found here.
Inspired by the strong ropes used aboard fishing vessels out in the North Sea, this fitted ladies’ jumper plays on the alternative names for cable stitch, ‘Links of love’. It was commonly the fishermen’s wives who would knit ganseys, taking huge amounts of love and care to finish – keeping their man comfortable and protected at sea. The welt plays with different widths of cable combined with rib to be visually interesting but practical, like the ganseys of old.
