The Royal
Royal characters show up in a variety of portrayals, including: Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings; Anastasia from Anastasia; the Little Prince from Le Petit Prince; Princess Dragomiroff from Murder on the Orient Express; King Arthur from the many different works about him; and so many others it’s impossible to even touch on the wide scope available. The Royal socks invoke whichever royal character is your favourite, and allows you to carry them with you throughout your day. Knit with luxuriously purple yarn (to denote a royal position, of course) and a complex cable knot down the front, you can slip these into your shoes when you’re going incognito as a hidden symbol of royal status.
Sizes
There are three sizes in the pattern, small (18cm foot circumference), medium (20cm foot circumference), and large (22.5cm foot circumference). Note that the sizes listed are measured around the sock, so find your size by measuring your foot and then subtracting 10%.
Gauge is listed in stockinette, but if you are a tight cable-r, it may be worth it to double check your gauge with the front cable pattern so your socks aren’t too small. It is recommended that you block these socks so the cables lay flat, so gauge should be taken from a blocked swatch.
Yarn
Alley Cat Yarns Boots 2-ply has been discontinued, but any fingering weight sock yarn with at least 15% nylon can be used. Testers for the pattern used Cascade Yarns Heritage, Knit Picks Stroll Fingering, and NaturalFibreArts NFA Lux Sock.
Notions
DPN’s or circulars (pattern can interpreted for both), cable needle, darning needle, stitch markers, and sock blockers.
This pattern features more complex cables than my other patterns, so a good grasp of cabling is needed, as well as basic knowledge of cuff down, in the round, heel flap and gusset sock construction
