The Royal Sweater
Description
The Royal Sweater is a cropped sweater with balloon sleeves. This sweater is worked from the top-down, in the round, starting with a folded neckband. The yoke is shaped over five evenly-spaced increase rounds, including a short-row section which adds height to the back of the neck. After the yoke, the sleeve stitches are placed on waste-yarn while the rest of the body is knitted, ending with decreases and a patterned hem. The sleeve stitches are then picked up and knit in the round, ending with a similarly patterned hem and decreased cuff.
This pattern can be adjusted to lengthen the body and/or sleeves, depending on preference.

Yarn and Needels
The sample sweater was knitted with Håndværksgarn from Hjelholts Uldspinderi (100 g 3.53 oz = 200 m 219 yd). Any similarly gauged yarn that holds its shape well can be used as a substitute, e.g. Léttlopi from Ístex or other woolen yarn.
Gauge: 18 stitches x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm 4 x 4 in on 4.5 mm US 7 needles.
Creating a gauge swatch is highly recommended for this project. Wash and measure the gauge swatch to ensure that the number of stitches and rounds per 10 cm 4 in is correct. If one of the dimensions is too high and the other too low, wet-blocking may be sufficient in correcting the gauge. If both the number of stitches and rounds is too high or low, you need to increase or decrease your needle size, respectively.
Yarn needed:
300 (350) 350 (450) 500 (550) g of color A and
100 (100) 100 (100) 150 (150) g of color B.
Needles:
- 4.5 mm US 7 circular needle with 100 cm 40 in. cable
- 4.5 mm US 7 circular needle with 40 cm 16 in. cable
- 4.5 mm US 7 double-pointed needles
(Or needle sizes needed to achieve gauge)
Note: the 100 cm 40 in. circular needle can be used to knit the entire sweater if using the Magic Loop Method for working small circumferences (e.g. sleeves)
Notions:
- 2 stitch markers
