When I was young, I think I must have watched The Sandlot hundreds of times, and that is not an exaggeration. To this day, I still know every line of that movie by heart. There is one part in particular that always stood out, a scene where the boys are arguing with their rival team. The ultimate insult, “You play ball like a girl!” is defiantly exclaimed, followed by immediate silence, as if that was the worst thing anyone could possibly say. Even as a child, I felt unimaginably offended. Girls were just as competent at playing sports, or doing anything else they wanted to for that matter. It took me a long time to understand that even in a movie geared towards kids, misogyny is still very much at the forefront. I wanted to reclaim that moment somehow, and turn it upside down, so I chose the most feminine colors I could think of, along with a modified silhouette meant to flatter curves, and applied that to a clothing style originally designed for men. Though a small gesture, this is my very proud middle finger to the patriarchy.

This sweater is knit from the bottom up, mostly in the round, and then flat for the front and back yokes. The sleeves are also knit in the round, starting at the cuff, with a unique bind off method to create a circular shape for the collar, which is added after the sleeves are seamed to the raglan section of the body. Finally a pretty folded hem along the bottom for a clean finish. The Sandlot is designed with no positive or negative ease in mind. Measure around the largest part of your bust and choose the size closest to that measurement. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger option.
