My contribution to the Garter Stitch Scarf genre , a riff on Jared Flood’s beloved Scholar Collar, makes for an ideal second scarf. It still utilizes garter stitch but expands and enriches knitting skills with some light shaping and pattern reading. Most importantly, it is written to allow you to use any yarn you like—any yarn. I named this scarf for one of my favorite fictional literary scholars, Roland Michell of A. S. Byatt’s Posession, but the classic design could just as easily be worn by the subject of his study, fictional Victorian poet Randolph Henry Ash.
