The Shawl You’re Looking For
The Shawl You’re Looking For is a great pattern to combine yarns that you want to use in a project together but don’t want to actually blend them together. The Star Wars inspired droid yarns I used go together as well as R2-D2, C3PO, and BB-8 do, but they don’t look as beautiful blended together in color work. Changing colors halfway through some of the stripes creates a fun color blocking effect within the striped pattern.
The stripes not only alternate color, but also texture. Stockinette stitch really lets the uniquely dyed yarns shine, while garter stitch solid stripes give the shawl some squish factor. You’ll love how the garter stitch border is knit on, creating a final garter stripe that runs perpendicular to the rest of the garter stitch. It’s that last little detail that elevates the design from simple shawl to casual wardrobe staple.
All three droid yarns I used are by Lazer Sheep Yarns and I highly recommend them. The colorways are R2-Sheep2, Sheep3-PO, and BB-Sheep.
