The Shelly Drawstring Bag
The Shelly Drawstring Bag can be adjusted to whatever hook and yarn size you are using. However, for the shells on the sides, the base end count needs to be divisible by 5. I have included calculations that work from 1.5” - 5” in the written pattern with size 10 crochet thread and a 1.5mm crochet hook, and directions for calculating your own gauge and estimating the finished size with your yarn.
The video tutorial is available here.
The pattern is relatively easy; as long as your tension is fine and you’re using a yarn size you’re used to, it’ll be a breeze.
Stitches/abbreviations used:
Space (sp), slip stitch (slp st), chain (ch), single crochet (sc), half-double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), shell (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc into same sp).
You will need:
-
Size 10 crochet thread (or whatever yarn you’re using.)
-
A 1.5mm crochet hook (or whatever hook size your yarn calls for)
-
Hemp twine, pictured is the 1mm hemp twine from Joann’s, but the slightly thicker 6-ply twine helps to ensure the bag closes tightly.
-
A bead, check that it’s big enough for the twine! I used a hildie & jo 6mm wooden bead.
-
Maybe a grippy for pulling the bead onto the twine.
-
Yarn needle.
-
Scissors.
