I made my first sleevescarf years ago, and never could have guessed how much I would still love it today. It’s my go-to scarf; partly because it has so many coordinated colors that despite being kind of loud it matches almost everything, and partly because I can shove my hands into the ends and not also have to remember mittens.

Yarn: Select a worsted or aran weight yarn you use frequently, get at least one skein to use for the borders and as the “main” stripe color, then add some half-skeins and leftovers in other colors. You can line them all up and weed out any colors that really look out of place with the others.

Shown in: Lamb’s Pride Worsted (190 yds/174 m, 113 g/3.99 oz) I used 6 colors, you can use more or less. MC: Oregano. CCs are: Aubergine, Turquoise Depths, Blue Boy, an unidentified Red, and a discontinued sky blue. Total yardage will depend on length, I used about 350yds/320m for the size S sleevescarf shown above. For the 2 largest sizes, 2 skeins of the MC might be needed, it will depend on how long and how frequently you make MC stripes.

Gauge: 4st/in. (16 sts/4in, 16 sts/10cm).
Needles: DPNs US size 6/4mm (or size needed to obtain gauge), and a large circular needle of the same size.
Sizes: 5 sizes (by upper arm circumference). Adult XS- 9in/22.5cm, S- 10in/25.5cm (shown), M- 12in/30.5cm, L- 14in/35.5cm, XL- 15in/38cm. Select a size with about .5in/1.27cm to 1in/2.5in negative ease. See “Customize” section on P 2. for: standard arm/cross back measurements, and how to to make a custom size or alter gauge.
Skills: knit, purl, knit and purl through back loop, knit in the round, knit flat, cast on, cast off, place sts on holder or scrap yarn. Includes brief tutorial for spit-splicing. Provisional cast on (optional).
Accessibility Notes: 12 point serif font with bolded and underlined headings, no columns (except for abbreviation key). Due to ability to rest hands inside of scarf for additional layer of warmth (especially when caught off guard by the weather), it may be particularly useful to those with circulatory problems (such as Raynauds).
