‘The Snow Maiden’ double-layered mittens are knit in the round from the bottom up. However, this is not double knitting as you might think. All you have to do is knit four details: a pair of the inside mittens in stockinette stitch (inner layer), and a pair of the upper mittens (outer layer) in lace pattern on the back of the hand, and in stockinette stitch on the palm side. To finish, you’ll insert one detail into another and join them together (for each pair of mittens).
The double-layered mittens turn out very warm and cozy. They will keep your hands warm, especially during the severe winter frosts. And your hands will be forever grateful to you.

The pattern includes both charts and written instructions.
A detailed step-by-step photo tutorial is also included.

SIZE: To fit a hand 17–19 cm in circumference around the hand at the widest point; palm length is about 18 cm.

MATERIALS:
• Two sets of 2.0 mm double pointed needles (or circular knitting needles of the same size)
• 75-100 g of light fingering weight yarn (500-600 m/100 g)
For the sample shown, the double-stranded yarn was used: Color City Norka Yarn (48% mink, 52% cashmere goat; 350 m/50 g) together with the cobweb weight lace yarn (100% merino wool; 1500 m/100 g).
The total weight is 477 m/100 g. The sample shown used 75 g of yarn.
You will also need a waste yarn for provisional cast on, 2 safety pins, darning needle, cable needle, stitch markers, and scissors.

GAUGE:
30 stitches and 43 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm in stockinette stitch, measured after wet blocking.
Note: If using another weight yarn, make sure that an adjustment is not necessary. Changing your yarn weight will change both the size and appearance of the finished project as well as the amount of yarn required.
Gauge varies from knitter to knitter and strongly depends on your individual manner of knitting. Before you start, it is recommended to knit a swatch to determine your gauge. Go up or down in needle size or yarn weight until you are satisfied with the result.
