The Snowdrop
Are you always looking for the perfect vest? This is a very feminine take on a menswear-style vest and cardigan (both included in pattern). The richly textured stitches make the knitting interesting.
This design is quite spectacular whether you choose the solid color or the multicolor version. Directions for both are included in this pattern.
Please do not be intimidated by the length and detailed nature of the instructions. You have undoubtedly spent untold hours augmenting sketchy knitting directions; only to find that making the left front correspond to the right requires a lot more thought process than the words “reverse shaping” would indicate.
I have worked very hard to take all that tedious figuring and guesswork out of this project for you. Since I’ve already done all those calculations, you don’t have to; take all your new-found time and use it the way it should be used – for knitting!
I do not indicate any specific brands of yarns for a number of reasons, the foremost of which is that this sweater is your creation. Concerning fit, the contoured side seams make this sweater slightly fitted, but you can easily eliminate the side shaping if you choose.
All versions were done with DK weight yarn on size 6 needles in a gauge of 5 sts = 1”. You also need a crochet hook size C or D, and 5 buttons. If you want a sweater smaller or larger than 40” across the bust, you can add or subtract reverse stockinette stitches from the sides, add them between the motifs, or vary your needle size and/or weight of yarn.
Please note that there is no room for eliminating stitches above the armhole, as the armhole shaping eats up all but one of the reverse stockinette stitches; you can, however, make your shoulder wider.
Detailed stitch-by-stitch, row-by-row instructions are provided for this and every pattern.
