This pattern is for a basic top-down sock, in 4 gauges, with a classic “French” turned heel and a flat toe.

This pattern will grow with you, as your sock-knitting abilities progress from beginner to intermediate.

Worsted 200 – 250 yds
DK 225 – 275 yds

The amount of yarn you will need depends somewhat on the length of your foot, and the length of your cuff. The smaller amount listed should suffice to make a pair of socks for a woman’s size 7-8 foot, with a 5-½“ cuff.

Needles: set of 5 double-point needles (dpn) in the size you need to obtain the correct gauge.
US 4 - 5 (3.5 – 3.75 mm)
US 2 - 3 (2.5 – 3.25 mm)
US 1 - 2 (2.25 – 2.5 mm)
US 0 - 1 (2.0 – 2.25 mm)
