A lofty cabled beanie featuring allover sand cables and an optional rolled cuff. Designed in a lofty aran-weight merino, the Sphagnum Moss hat is a quick, simple and satisfying knit and looks lovely in a variegated or hand-dyed yarn like this luxurious Fibresmith Aran Merino.

This design is dedicated to all the bogs, swamps, mudflats, mires, sloughs, fens and other soggy, underappreciated wetland habitats across the globe that are crucial to the survival of ours and countless other species. We have lost nearly 90% of the world’s wetlands in the last 300 years and those remaining are disappearing three times faster than forests. 1 in 3 of all freshwater species face extinction.
Sphagnum moss is a remarkable plant, an eco-system engineer with the ability to build bogs, store carbon and even help preserve dead bodies!

This pattern is offered for free for personal use only. Please note, the pattern has not been test-knitted by anyone other than myself and constructive feedback would be gratefully received via Ravelry.
