Meet “The Stuyvesant” Knitting Pattern. I’ve decided to name each of my pieces after a Weird NJ site. If you’re from New Jersey, then it’s likely that you know what this is! Weird NJ is “Your Travel Guide to New Jersey’s Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets.” “The Stuyvesant” Knitting Pattern is named after the abandoned houses at the Rutherfurd-Stuyvesant Estate. In Allamuchy, NJ there is a very old, abandoned estate that used to be one of the most impressive in the United States, called Tranquility Farms. This belonged to the Rutherfurd-Stuyvesant family, who were descendants to Petrus Stuyvesant (1592-1672). He was the last Dutch colonial Director-General of New Netherland, until it was ceded provisionally to the English in 1664. The abandoned land includes concrete pillars with an tall iron gate (originally the grand entrance to the property), stone walls, carriage paths, and all of the original houses and buildings.
