The SWARF
A “swarf” is basically just a short, wide scarf with sleeves.
Disclaimer: this is the first official pattern I have written. I very rarely use patterns in my crochet projects so I winged it for writing this one but I did my best. I have much more appreciation for people who write patterns! This pattern is FREE for everyone to share and use, just in doing so I ask that you give credit for my writing it and don’t sell it or represent it as your own pattern. Thanks – Deborah Rodriguez
General info:
• This pattern is written for a size 4 because that is what I wear.
• Finished dimensions are 53” wide x 28” long (from neck to bottom hem)
• If you would like to vary the size, note that the width of the swarf determines how far down it will drape down in the front. Ideally I would have made mine 60” wide but I did not have enough yarn.
• I have made two of these, both with Naturally Caron Spa yarn, which has been discontinued. Because of this there are variations between the two I have made due to amount of yarn I had to work with for each one.
• The yarn is “3” weight and I used an H/8 (5.00mm) hook.
• At the end of each row I chain up and flip the work, and the chain up becomes the first stitch on the next row.
• I am left handed but I tried to write this so what hand you are does not matter in regards to the instructions.
• There are four parts to this pattern: Part A for the bottom, Part B for the armholes (which are worked in three sections), Part C for closing the armholes and the top, and Part D for the sleeves.
• The entire swarf is done in shell stitch, with a selvage of 3 stitches/6 stitches on each side of the garment. The stitch/row counts are calculated so that the pattern is consistent and continuous for the entire garment, including the sleeves.
• A diagram and pictures are at the end of the instructions.
