The Takoza (Grandchild) Tipi
I created this project to honor my heritage as a Dakota woman and participate in The Great Yarn Challenge by The Craft Yarn Council.
There are a few other supplies required, Sisal rope, tree stakes and a small amount of muslin or sturdy cotton fabric. More details about this are on my blog, linked above.
The directions are a bit informal and you are welcome to contact me at crochetatthelodge@gmail.com if you have questions.
If you decide to give it a go, I respectfully ask that if you are not of Native American lineage, that you not sell it or use it to promote your business or website. This is cultural appropriation and follows in the footsteps of the exploitation and stolen resources Native people have been subjected to through Colonialism. This can be a lengthly and complicated subject and if you have questions here are some good resources: Native Appropriations on the All My Relations Podcast or the blog, Native Appropriations by Adrienne Keene. But please do make and use it for you and your little relatives’ personal enjoyment!
