This is a very tightly knit toque (a watch cap for the non-Canadians) designed for the larger than average head. Both myself and some of my family members have heads over 23” in circumference and find that most hat patterns do not fit us comfortably.

I purposefully knit worsted weight yarn on smaller needles for this project to add an element of wind resistance to the finished hat. Arctic outflow winds show no mercy and require a step up in knitting style!

As this pattern is quite simple, my hope is that new knitters will find it fairly easy to modify. Earth Guild has a very nice hat calculator if you need help with the math of changing the size of the hat.

The hat shown here is knit using one skein of Malabrigo rios in the colourway “Glazed carrot.”

Good luck and happy knitting!
