The Tito Tank
Garment description:
The Tito Tank is a very simple tank with some subtle little details that allow you to dress it up or down! With the pattern, you can learn how to knit a tank that fits you exactly how you want it to. It is worked top-down: starting with the front triangles, followed by the back ones, which are slightly smaller. This difference gives you more coverage where you need it (the bust!) plus a flattering low back. After joining all four triangles, you go back to the top corner of the triangles to work your straps - you can choose between dainty i-cords or a thicker double stockinette strap. By doing the straps first, you can try on the tank and decide for yourself how low you’ll want your neckline to go! After that, you can go back to the body and knit it for as long as you’d like. There’s also the optional body shaping, which is especially useful if your full bust and under bust circumferences are significantly different. The tank is then finished with the bind off of your choice - I personally love a garter stitch hem for the Tito. My goal with these instructions is to teach you how to knit something you will love and cherish forever, because it’s been knitted with your own body in mind! I hope after finishing it, you can have a basic understanding of garment shaping that you can implement in your future knitting projects!
Sizing:
This tank pattern is a made to measure pattern!
Testers had a full bust circumference between 70 - 122 cm (27 - 48 in). This corresponds approx. to a XS-2XL size range.
The garment can be knitted with anything between 15 cm/6 in of positive or negative ease.
Yarn:
Anything between Sport and Aran weight. Fibers such as cotton, linen or bamboo will provide drape, while others such as wool or acrylic will provide structure.
Testers used between 130 and 540 m of yarn. This number heavily depends on many factors, as there is a lot of customization available in this pattern. A good rule of thumb is, you will need a bit less yarn than you would normally need for a simple tank.
Gauge:
There is no specific gauge you must follow, you will knit a gauge swatch to have your own stitch gauge as reference.
Sample gauge -
10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) square = 17 sts x 18 rows in stockinette in the round with 4.5mm (US 7) needles (after being blocked)
Suggested Needles:
You can use whatever needle size is recommended for the yarn you will use (or whatever you personally choose to use!)
Sample needle size -
4.5mm (US 7) circular knitting needles
